The next board meeting of the Whalers' Island Homeowners Association will be held on Tuesday, November 17, 2026 at 4:00 PM as a remote meeting using video conference and teleconference technology. Homeowners can participate by either video conference or teleconference and may speak during the homeowner forum at the beginning of the meeting. Prepare for El Nino winter

BE PREPARED FOR THE FORECASTED EL NINO WINTER!
URGENT NOTICE REGARDING GUTTERS, DOWNSPOUTS and HORRIZONTAL DRAINS
TO THE BULKHEADS
 
It has been forecasted that we may have a severe El Nino winter this year, with lots of
rain. Please have your gutters and downspouts cleaned and cleared of debris! Homes
on the water may have horizontal underground drains to the bulkhead that need to be
cleared with the plumber’s roto rooter machine. A garden house will not clear these
blockages.
 
Also, the openings from your drains that run through the bulkhead may be covered by
barnacles and will not allow the drains to empty. We recommend having these
openings cleared of any debris.
 
Why is it so important to have your gutters, downspouts and drained cleared? Because
if your gutters overflow and your downspouts and drains are blocked, the water may
flood your foundation and enter your home or your neighbors!
 
Also, if you are using a drain extender to direct the water away from your home, do not
point the extender toward your neighbor’s fence and home. Point the extender toward
your walkway or driveway - away from your foundation and your neighbor’s home.
If you need to install a flexible drain extender, they can be purchased at any hardware
store or Home Depot, Amazon or Lowes.
 
It is much less expensive to perform this maintenance NOW than to wait until the
storms arrive. Let’s be prepared for El Nino!
